I AM BACK BITCHES!!!

Its been a long time since I have been here…but I am being pulled back spiritually and physically.

Finding my path again has helped me to align my spiritual with my goals and dreams.

I am back on the writing path and looking forward to dipping back into my reading and writing.

So there will be a daily post, whether its chit-chat about books, reviews, or just my ramblings.

Will soon be adding sections for herbs, oils and other surprises.

It is time to exercise my creative juices and get them flowing again.

Until next time…

School of Sight by Alisha A. Knaff

Mankind lumbers through everyday life, oblivious to the blinding veil that covers the truth of the dangers and wonders lurking amongst them. The ongoing battles for power and magic between supernatural beings constantly threaten their mundane existence.

When one young sybl finally lifts her veil and sees the truth of the coexistence of magical beings surrounding her, she unknowingly becomes the key to empower an evil vampire.

However Fate has a different role for her to become but first, she must discover herself, her magical abilities, and the natural magic of love and true friendship.

School of Sight by Alisha A. Knaff is a story of truth and discovery. I was amazed at how Ms. Knaff made me feel the emotions of happiness, love, and sadness that her characters experienced. She has provided a tale of excitement and danger, keeping the reader glued to turning the pages and finding out what happens next.

There is an excellent story plot, grammar, and perfect editing. I give this wondrous story a rating of 4 stars. I am looking forward to seeing more from this story and recommend School of Sight to those interested in the supernatural world set in modern times.

NightWalker by Ime Atakpa

The Thrush Family has suffered a terrible curse for three hundred years. The most recent victim in the family, Hubert has been inflicted and tortured by the night walks.

Watching his parents mourn his disappearance, he discovers himself being tortured continuously by the eerie silence and inability to be heard or take action. After much pain and self-loathing, he decides that nothing is impossible. He will find a way for restoration and end the torment his parents as well as himself endures.

NightWalker by Ime Atakpa is extremely well written and has perfect grammar and editing. The author has a skill of developing the story and the characters. The main character, Hubert, faces a dilemma and though the storyline is well groomed, the beginning is drawn out, almost drowns out the plot and direction.

The pieces will fall together and hook you in if you give it the chance. The author has left an opening for Hubert’s story to continue and I am hoping Book 1 is just an introduction to the real jewels of this adventure.

My advice and suggestion for the author are to lighten the load of over describing the minute details in the beginning and keep it simple. Sometimes less is more.

I give NightWalker by Ime Atakpa a rating of Three. This is NOT a bad rating, it means I like the story and the characters but there are improvements that could be made.

Ashes To Ashes, The Scribing of Ishitar Volume II by Carrie F. Shepherd

Ashes to Ashes, The Scribing of Ishitar, Volume II by Carrie F. Shepherd is a colorful twist and consequence of a rebellion by angels and demons, an act that caused them to be banished from heaven in Book One of this series.

The story includes a wide variety of fantasy characters in addition to angels and demons along with typical mortal humans. Without reading the first book in this series it will take a little bit of focus and patience to decipher good from evil or maybe a pinch of both!

Kingdoms are fought over by the Gods in the heavens and as usual, lesser creatures are always in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A story of greed, deceit, and revenge amongst the supernatural ranks, all with the desire for more everything, more power, and forbidden love will birth a war. Species will attempt to outdo other species and the battles will become a matter of survival.

Friendships between races weaken to the breaking point as love affairs are ripped into pieces.  Death and destruction plague all as a young man leads his people to battle and just at the onslaught of defeat, surprising aid comes from unexpected origins.

Betrayal and trust, melt and mix to the point where the only thing reliable is one’s own survival.  Forget prayers to a higher power, the Gods are the deliverers and the worst of all evil.

This author keeps you hooked with all the twists and turns and shocking events.  However, I do recommend that you read the first book in the series as this is not a stand alone.  I believe I would have enjoyed the first part of the story much more if I had read book One first instead of attempting to develop and decipher the characters on my own.

I do recommend this book for the paranormal and fantasy lovers out there!  This story will have a little taste of everything that you crave, therefore giving this tale a BIG 4 Stars!

SUNBORN RISING – Beneath The Fall

Barra inherits her father’s passion for exploring and discovering new territories.  After discovering her father’s journals her passion is ignited and she will go so far as to disobey her mother to embark on a journey, the same journey that took her father.

But her love for her family and friends pushes her to save their tree from the black rot that is slowly creeping upon them and threatening to destroy their lives.  She and her two best friends adventure on a new quest through the floating tree-scape of Cerulean desperate to find a way to save them all.

Aaron Safronoff depicts a fantasy tale into a world that has forgotten their past but more importantly forgotten that there are bigger worlds outside of their tree.  The characters and the settings are well developed so much so that they will drag you into their realm and fill your mind with colorful illustrations as you watch your imagination twist and turn the story into a movie you will never forget.

I recommend Sunborn Rising – Beneath the Fall to YA Fantasy readers who are looking for something different and refreshing from the normal dragons and magic.

Willows of Fate is magnetizing!

Desdemona struggles through mental issues all her life that she eventually drowns with drinking and sex. Finally after she reaches the bottom of the barrel, she pulls herself up and runs down the narrow path towards a decent life, but those mental issues that she thought were mostly hallucinations, burn in the back of her mind.

After her mother’s death, those visions rise to the top and she soon discovers that the visions are real and always have been. The apparitions persuade her that she has to come to their world, that she is in grave danger.  She learns there is a dark force after what she possesses.  Almost too late, she will discover the secrets of the dark force and the possession they are willing to kill for.

I highly enjoyed reading this Willows of Fate (The Lands of Sun and Stone Series Book 1) with its unique characters and its magnetizing twists and turns.  When reading a story, my first attraction is if the author’s words will pull me into a movie where I see pictures instead of black words on a white page.  That is exactly what the author, Suzanna J. Linton has done for me.  Now I crave for a sequel to find out what has happened to Desdemona.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to escape reality and jump into a world of action, romance, and betrayal.

CHAOTIC BRILLANCE!

Eve is in constant turmoil between her father’s loving motivations and her mother’s not-so-loving expectations.  Her constant failures eat away at her self esteem while she becomes a rope in the game of Tug-Of-War between her parents.

When Eve’s mother pushes her to do the ‘unthinkable’ all hell breaks loose, giving her the confidence to decide that she no longer needs Life’s false motherly attention.  Giving in to her true nature with a little help from Destiny, Eve strips her mother from Life.

Death’s true love becoming evident, she promotes the one sister that never showed her a millisecond of affection.  Maybe the Fates were right, Life and Death shouldn’t have tempted them and had a daughter.

I was lucky enough to receive this story as a free download and I am thrilled to have enjoyed the unique tale of love and hate.  Patti Larsen is one of my favorite young adult authors and she never disappoints. Ms. Larsen has a skill of creating worlds and characters that collide and combust into a story that pulls you in like vacuum-sucking vortex.

I wish had ten thumbs to hold up for the first book in a new series that is truly to become my new reading addiction.

HAPPY EASTER!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and Happy Easter!!!  img_0427-1

Looking forward to this weekend myself.  Itching and can’t sit still because I wanna jump head-first into my writing.

That’s right!  I finally busted through that horrible block!  Geez, I mean it was really bad!  Overtime I sat down at the laptop, I just stared at the page and the scene where I left off.  Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing would come to my brain or flow out of me.

I didn’t give up though and finally the ideas overflowed.

Maya and Bri’s adventure is coming along and unexpected events are happening that I never knew before hand.  They are straying off the outline path! Giggles.

Pretty soon I will post some excerpts to get opinions AND suggestions.  Still working on book reviews as well.

HAPPY HOLIDAY!!

New Orleans Experience – Day Five and Six

Yes 2 days in one! I know, I know!  I needed another day in bed to recover from this cold! It sucks getting sick on vacation.  Thankfully the hubby got me cold meds and a huge bottle of vitamin C, which I have been probably overdosing on but it works!

So moving forward to Day Six…I made myself get up and get ready.  We strolled through the streets of the French Quarter searching for an authentic voodoo shop.  I desperately wanted to find something for my best friend.  After browsing through a few shops claiming to be voodoo, I quickly discovered that these shops are not really authentic at all but mostly commercialized.

They all had multiple displays of oils, incense, and even voodoo dolls that seemed of cheap quality but were for sale with a high price tag.  Now, for those with an open mind and soul, you know who you are, when you go into certain places, places that you know have a certain mystical attraction, you can feel the energy.  Something in the air whether it is the hair on the back of your neck standing, a calm or nervous feeling, or a small breeze that whispers through your hair that feels like a touch.

Well I expected to feel something.  All of these shops had an altar on display, roped off with a sign that said “Do Not Touch”.  Even with that altar display, there was no energy, no feeling…nothing.  The only vibe I got was the feel of someone trying to take advantage of tourists, claiming to be authentic and persuade visitors to empty their pockets and wallets for the cheap trinkets that they sold.

I knew right away they weren’t real.  But remembering what a Haitan waiter told us that the truly authentic voodoo shops could only be found in the swamps, I was about to give up on finding that special gift for my friend.  I decided to buy a coffee mug and a poster from the Marie Laveau VooDoo Shop (yes it felt commercialized as well) instead of that special charmed gift that I had hoped would call out to me.

After making my purchases and feeling very disappointed, the hubby and I cut down one of the smaller side streets, enjoying the view and the hubby found a spot that was filmed on NCIS New Orleans that he took a picture of.

Right close to the spot where he took his picture I found this little shop that caught my attention right away.  Mind you this shop was on a side street, no traffic at all, on foot or in a car.  There was nothing else on this street but residential homes and a gated parking area.

IMG_1299The sign hanging above the door had an energy and called out to me!  We went inside and I could feel the energy right away.  There was a feeling of peace and excitement at the same time.  There were items for sale but there weren’t huge supplies of these items.  Also these items didn’t seem cheap in quality either.

We browsed and chatted with the lady in the shop.  Come to find out, she was a palm-reader and she hosted (by appointment only) sessions for readings as well as special vampire/ghost tours that you would not find in the tourist attraction brochures.  If you would like to visit their website, click on the picture.  If you want to visit physically, their address is:

Carpe Noctem Boutique du Vampyre

709 1/2 St. Ann

New Orleans, LA  70116

As we kept chatting with her I found a shelf with special items on display.  No I won’t tell you what that item was because that was what called out to me, that special gift for my best friend, and I don’t want her to read this before I get home and know what her gift is, (Love you Gwen).

Anyways, there a little sign attached to the shelf giving instructions that you choose the main gift, but the lady in the shop would pick out special charms for you that would go inside the item.  So I asked her about those items.  She explained she would get a feel or read from you and she would pick out the charms just for you.

Butterflies exploded in my stomach!  I explained to her that I was searching for a gift for my best friend and asked if she could get a feel for her.  She said sure after she asked some questions about my friend.

PERFECT!

I answered her questions and she  picked out the charms.  I didn’t get to see the charms, so I don’t know what they are and they are hidden inside the gift.

This wonderful lady also gave us a special map to some hidden places that you don’t find on any of the ghost tours.  I loved her!!  And there were many more items in the shop I really wanted to buy.

But after saying our goodbyes and an invitation to come back for a private session and tour with my best friend, we made our way to Frenchman Street.  There we found the jazz and blues clubs.

We picked one and ordered a cocktail…only $5…and listened to the music while we relaxed.  I loved it!

Later we strolled down the streets heading back to our resort but made a quick stop at a Cigar Factory while hubby bought and enjoyed a hand-rolled cigar.

Today was a wonderful day and I look forward to what we have on the schedule for tomorrow.
